INTRODUCTION |
Creating a new logo is never an easy job. The logo, as a matter of fact, must be able to furnish a constantly clear representation that can be shared by everybody once it is adopted and used in all its expressions. In designing the new logo, we bore in mind three fundamental elements that, in their simplicity, univocally identify the USIC:
This is an interpretation of the new and consequently more modern logo able to adapt the image co-ordinated with all of the situations and above all is adaptable for being used in the new media (CD-ROM, Internet, etc.). With this document, the National Railwaymens Association declares its availability to collaborate in all of the activities deriving from the adoption of the new logo while auguring, among other things, the realisation of an Internet site that will permit a faster and more modern exchange of information among its members. |

| STRUCTURE OF THE USIC LOGO |
The logo is a modular whole, meaning that it consists of several
objects arranged on a grid made up of rectangles, which are gathered inside a triangular
outline.
If we read the three modules that make up the logo vertically, the drawing of a trophy is seen in the centre of the drawing. The trophy is formed by a rectangular base that contains the USIC acronym. The figure of the man, which is already found in the old logo and is rendered only with a profile, sits on top of the rectangular base. We selected the trophy the competitions prize as the most significant image for an association of sportsmen. The USIC acronym is written in full on the four lines to the left of the trophy. The "silhouette" of a new generation trains engine emerges to the right of the trophys base. By reading the modules horizontally from right to left, we can interpret the three elements in sequence (the engines silhouette, the trophys rectangular base and the four lines of text) as if it were a train in movement. This image effectively sums up the fact that USIC is also an association of railwaymen. The font used for the name in full is Geometr451 Blk Bt in slanted small capitals, whereas the font for the acronym is Charlesworth. The colour used is blue (in RGB: R=57, G=72, B=155; in Four-colour process: C=100, M=93, Y=0, K=0). |

USIC TRADEMARK |
The trophy on its own depicts the new USIC "trademark". It can be used in all the contexts where reference to USIC is apparent and in particular for customising objects and gadgets (e.g. watches, pens, key rings, etc.). |

USIC BADGE |
Departing from the trademark, we get to the badge by using the silhouette of the man and the USIC acronym in white on a blue background. | |
| We can get a variant of the logo.
By going through an intermediate step, like what was pointed out on this page, four lines having the same length replace the four lines of text, and this allows the drawing to evoke the image of the train in movement even better. This portrayal does leave out the principal. On the contrary, it is to be used as a substitution only in those cases where the reduced size of the logo or the need for greater synthesis makes its use opportune. |

| USIC LOGO APPLICATIONS |
As we stated above, the new logo was conceived in a
modular manner. This lets it be adapted to the communications needs every time as
required. In the hypotheses shown herein, the logo is used to identify the type of
sporting event by using the symbol of the sport in question, which is place to the right
of the trophy. Its name is written vertically and sits on the trophys base to the
left of the mans figure.
The font used for the name of the sport is Geometr451 Blk Bt, and the text is highlighted only by its blue outline and slanted upper-case letters.

USIC FLAG |
We thought about putting a blue triangle in the flags
rectangular area, resting on the rectangles base line. In this way it suggests the
idea of an arrow that emerges from the bottom, making the new logo stand out.
The composition can be made with the colours white and blue. |
